Fireside Chat: Tomo

Hojojutsu with tomo
February 4th | 7pm – 9pm
https://fetlife.com/events/301875 Location | HB Central, 2133 E 30th Street, Oakland Cost | Drinks to share would be sweet

Come by and learn about the history of hojojutsu and its practical uses: Given her background in traditional Japanese martial arts for over 30 years, tomo’s perspective of rope use is that of a military or martial one. Hojojutsu, the art of tying a prisoner with rope, fits well with her other battlefield based martial arts. Join us as we chat with tomo about the history of hojojutsu and how these martial and sometimes deadly techniques have been modified for consensual bondage.

Description:

Hitchin’ Bitches Bay Area Skill Share – December

Shay, creator of the bondage safety repository remedialropes.com and do-er of all the things, will be sharing information on mobile (“marionette”) suspensions. This Western-style, bottom-focused bondage is far different from strict Shibari immobilization- join us to learn about the acrobatics and freedom of movement that rope can offer!

SKILL SHARE

This is our monthly gathering to induce passionate skill sharing between all Hitchin’ Bitches. We spend a few hours a month in shared lab time. This includes asking questions, sharing ideas, problem solving together, following along with others, riffing with the rope, and generally rope jamming together.

This event is made possible by the contributions of the Center for Sex and Culture and Midori Sensei!

WHAT Are We Doing?

Together we are creating a safe space for Hitchin’ Bitches to practice rope. We want to create a thriving network so that we are representing, and represented in the broader kink/leather/sex communities.

This is what to expect
-opening demo
-basics rope share
-interactive rope play
-members helping members

WHO Is A Hitchin’ Bitch?

We welcome all women who live full time as women and FTM, genderqueer and intersexed persons who feel that they still have links to women’s communities. We seek to err on the side of inclusion!

MISSION Statement:

Empowerment! We want to dash Rope Politics (the hierarchy of perceived competition) by encouraging skill share and joint purpose. We want to help Hitchin’ Bitches find their own authentic Rope Voice as they repel “technical” focus and seek a balance of intent and skill in their rope activities.

Find the F.A.Q. HERE

GET INVOLVED:

We want those who feel they cannot join the skill share, but still want to learn, can contact each other and set other times to meet up. Go bold and promote our awesomeness! This helps us to raise visibility and tells other potential Hitchin’ Bitches that they are wanted and welcome. We ask that you help us to be proactive.

Twitter Us: @HBBayArea

Email Us: HitchinBitchesBayArea@mail.com

Don’t worry if you’re completely new to rope, absolute beginners are always welcome. More experienced riggers are equally encouraged, whether you want space to practice, to work on more advanced ties, or are looking for the chance to share your knowledge with others. If there’s something you’d be interested in teaching the group then message Skittles88 or post a discussion on our group page: [FetLife][www.fetlife.com/groups/77437].

As this is a rope event, please only engage in rope activities, please no other type of play, especially as this first event will be at our home. We’re happy to see a little tickling, pinching, and other toying (provided of course you have their consent), but this isn’t the place for other play.

ROPE:

Please feel free to bring your own rope. If you do not have any, we will be providing some; please be sure to return what you borrow.

SAFETY:

As with any kind of bondage, safety is paramount. All attendees participate at their own risk. Please make sure you know where your safety shears/cutting tools for rope are while playing.

SAFETY OF ROPE:

Do bring safety shears. Do not cut or burn any borrowed rope.

PHOTOGRAPHY:

Photography is permitted, but only with the explicit consent from all of those in the image, including those in the background: please make sure to ask for permission.

Folsom Theft

We were slated to host the very first Women’s tying space amidst Venus’ Playground at the fair. We did just that, and it was awesome. I hope you will join in the fun next year! But it is with a heavy heart that I say we suffered quite a loss at the start of that event. Read More about the theft here. HB lost all of our suspension supplies we had fundraised for, all of the rope many of us had spent hours whip stitching to sell at Folsom and raise more funds, all additional Skill Share supplies, funds, and more.

What happened first:

I was supporting the Folsom Venus’ Playground play space and creating a Hitchin’ Bitches women’s rope tying space, by providing equipment and supplies of various sorts. I rented a 16′ moving truck and we filled it to the brim! We had graciously been lent additional items from Dark Odyssey, IMsL, Folsom Street Events, Hitchin’ Bitches and more. At 0500 on Folsom Sunday, I looked at the truck parked outside my front door as I made coffee. At 0530 my family walked out the front door and our hearts froze in our chests…it wasn’t there. Disbelief came first and then we all proceeded at various rates through the Stages of Loss.

What happened next:

Once past disbelief, we immediately took action. EdgesDaddy got on the phone with the police to both ensure it had not been towed, and then notify them of the theft (they came by later in the day for a formal statement). Samantha-M let off steam and did an incredible sweep of known “drop off areas” for stolen vehicles. Skittles88 began calling those that needed to know what was happening in order to find alternatives to their lost supplies. And I leapt into my phone book and began messaging anyone I knew that might help us make magic happen for Venus’.

When we pull together:

It’s unbelievable how many people are awake by 6am on Folsom Sunday! Far more amazing, is how folks jumped up to help. I am fearful of missing a name, so I won’t try to list those that came to the rescue for our women’s play / education space and so much more that day. I was in tears several times: not because of loss, but because of the way people responded to support Venus’ needs.

The aftermath and loss:

I am currently rounding up my receipts to submit to the insurance company and get the claim settled. To say that I’m exasperated trying to round up receipts for Dungeon Equipment, suspension frame and mats, and countless supplies, is to put it incredibly mildly… It’s going to be a process, and as I write this, my heart beat is quickening and my body feels cold. Though the cost of the loss will never be fully recovered, Yet it is the nostalgia many of us have for, and the love put into creating so many wonderful things, that feels most poignantly violating. And that is heart wrenching for not only me, but others that lost items.

What you can do:

I would love to say I have the heart to ask for support in recovery. I don’t. I am too hurt / sad / angry, and vanilla life roars constantly and loudly for my focus. Several folks have proffered some lovely suggestions for helping to regain some of what we all lost. I will allow them to take those helms and throw my support behind recreating the equipment needed to stock Venus’ Playground playspace for it’s upcoming 10 year anniversary in 2015 and the Hitchin’ Bitches supplies that they had fundraised SO hard for, which were lost. Look for details about fundraisers and please feel free to share the information widely.

Location:
The Armory Club

1799 Mission St, San Francisco, CA   @ map

Dress code: Attire is casual but we always prefer that you dress to impress.
Description:

The KattHaus Club cordially invites you to a cocktail, rope & play munch at The Armory Club (14th & Mission in San Francisco) on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2014 at 7:00 pm. The Armory Club has graciously given us access to their back back AND downstairs, semi-private, space so we can add rope and play to the mix. Please remember that this is a public space with a liquor license so play should be casual and “R” rated at most. This is a social event, first and foremost, and we want to keep our host out of trouble. Please be sure to thank Jason, Zack, Barrett and the staff at The Armory Club and, if you can, tip a little extra as they make all of this happen for us.

This event is open to the general public but we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone who can’t behave.

The suspension point will be available for use by INVITATION ONLY and will require preapproval by The Armory Club management and the signing of a waiver by both the top and bottom. We will be reaching out to select, experienced, riggers to do demos and we ask that you respect this rule as it is critical to our continued use of the space.

Interested in becoming more involved in what we do? Talk to @ModusVitaeSF or @-Promethea- about the many service roles available for both “s” types AND “D” types of all flavors & stripes. We’re always looking to work with really awesome people who want to be a bigger part of this and help make the KattHaus Club better.

The KattHaus Club is a San Francisco Bay Area based social club whose mission is the healthy and positive promotion, practice and exploration of the theory, philosophy, psychology and mechanics of D/s and BDSM.

The Armory Club is a social escape from the normalcy of everyday life. A chic and edgy barroom invites you to wind down at the amber lit bar or melt into a vintage sofa for a long night of revelry and excess! Our talented bartenders offer a creative, handcrafted cocktail menu alongside award-winning local beers and an exciting wine list. Ultimately, The Armory Club is your San Francisco destination for all the best a bar should offer: thoughtful drinks, attentive service and comfortable design with the right amount of kink to make a night of it! In short, its the perfect place for us!

T-shirts!

Sales have finished and your shirts are on their way! Let us know when yours arrives.

The Florida group asked if all of us who have their turquoise shirt would please take a photo together for them, they would be honored. So if you have the first HB shirt, wear it to the Skill Share and we’ll take a fun photo (and ensure faces and distinguishing marks are hidden from view!)
